To focus our attention on our intention, we started off our meeting as we always do by reading our Peace Pledge together as a group. This helps us foster care, kindness, and compassion.

Peace Pledge

I pledge to use my words to speak in a kind way.

I pledge to help others as I go throughout my day.

I pledge to care for our earth with my healing heart and hands.

I pledge to respect people in each and every land.

I pledge to join together as we unite the big and small.

I pledge to do my part to create peace for one and all.

This month the Samaritans365 club welcomed Gillian Moxey, Community Relations Coordinator, and Wilma Pizarro, Contract Manager from ChildNet.  ChildNet is a local non-profit that aims to lead abused children to safety and stability.

Florida Department of Children & Families had chosen ChildNet to serve as the lead agency of Community Based Care (CBC) in both Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Their mission is to protect abused, abandoned and neglected children in the communities they serve.

The speakers used an interactive approach asking the students questions to gauge their knowledge on the subject. They taught them about foster care and some of the home situations that would require the agency’s assistance. They also explained how their goal is reunification of the children with their families.

The students actually had some prior knowledge of what foster care was and one child even related it back to the movie “Annie”. The students were eager to share their ideas on the subject, and as a reward for participating, they received tokens of appreciation like cups and pencils. The speakers thanked our Samaritans for hosting their agency by giving each student a Spirit Stick for their backpack. The kids were very appreciative and learned a great deal about the role ChildNet plays in helping local children in need.

Our generous Del Prado Families donated money that we used to purchase and assemble care packages.  We included toothbrush, toothpaste, comb, and hairbands.  These toiletry kits will be given to the children to use when they are removed from their homes. We presented the kits to Gillian and Wilma at the end of our Samaritans meeting along with a framed certificate of appreciation.
