Headbands of Hope is not your typical company that sells headbands, bandanas and other accessories. For each headband sold, one is donated to a child with cancer. My friend, Happy Science Mom, recently told me about them. She thought a collaboration with Growing Up Glad would be a good fit. I spent some time researching it and she was right! It combines Giving + Glamour!
I knew this was something I needed to be involved with. Most of my commitment with cancer charities over the past 10+ years has been with Gilda’s Club South Florida. I was excited to reach out to them and inquire about teaming up. As I read through their website, I became more and more enthusiastic about spreading the hope. I love how this young lady founded her company based on an observation and how she created so many opportunities for others to be involved. Her mission is to make others feel better about themselves and add a little glamour into an often times grim situation.
Jessica Ekstrom created Headbands of Hope during her junior year of college. She witnessed during her experience in an internship, that girls loved to wear headbands after losing their hair to chemotherapy. She took the initiative from that observation and created a company from it- a company with so much heart. She even made a line of buffs/bandanas for boys. She believes fashion can serve as a vehicle to improve one’s self-identity.
Headbands of Hope gives in 2 different ways. The first is for every headband purchased, one is given to a child with cancer.
The other is through the Hope Market- for every accessory sold, a portion of the proceeds benefits a different childhood cancer organization each month. In June 2015, they celebrated giving to every children’s hospital in the country! They are open to receiving requests for both hospitals and organizations!
