This is really a story of one mom/woman supporting and encouraging another.
Shortly after I started my Instagram account, I came across the account @thepetitepoet.
What I really liked was how this little girl was styled, and how her clothing and poses were age-appropriate.
After following her account for some time, I learned that she had a very special connection with her Aunt. That really touched my heart because I did too for most of my life, until I lost my Aunt to cancer.
As a Mom, (and educator) I was really impressed that this 9 year old girl, Mia, was writing her own blog posts. She has a mini fashion blog called The Petite Poet where she writes about her street style fashion. She is right here in South Florida too. I decided to be courageous and put myself out there. I sent her Mom a heartfelt email introducing myself, and a little about my daughter wanting to start modeling.
We ended up speaking several times, and then setting up a bowling date with our families. Ella was excited to meet “The Petite Poet”. Mia and Ella connected right away, as did her mom, Eileen and I, and friendships were formed. Our families had a great time together. Although Instagram was our initital contact, our friendship now far surpasses that of “Insta-friend” status.
As the saying goes, “Friendship isn’t about who you’ve known the longest. It’s about who walked into your life, said, ‘I’m here for you’ and proved it.”
Eileen and Mia have been mentors to us as we got our page more established and our blog up and running. What I love so much is the openness, support and encouragement. She has helped guide us and really has become a good friend to me. I am so grateful and appreciative. All too often, we see women competing, criticizing and comparing.
Let’s as women, make a mindful shift to practice supporting, encouraging, and empowering each other. There is so much good to learn from one another. We can be each other’s strength. Do something today to support, encourage or empower another Mom!
Let’s have each other’s back!
